SKETCHBOOK – I

43rd and 9th Avenue NY, New York – 2021

In October 2021, during my trip to Egypt, I started using watercolors to provide some color and texture to my sketches. I was watercoloring ink drawings with a heavy black line. These sketches were a lot of fun but I wasn’t getting the “natural” feel that I wanted. I started using watercolor to outline the features and clothing instead. It definitely helped my drawings feel more realistic and less cut and pasted. Sketching with pens and markers is something i’ve done for years and have been comfortable with. For me, change is never easy. In my personal life and in my art, challenging myself with new things has always been a very slow process. It’s only afterwards when I’m amazed how I never tried new things sooner.
